How can Students use Technology to Enhance their Learning

Image
There are many things students can do with technology which enhances their learning. One, Computer literacy is very important in today's workforce and overall society. Young adults are not only expected to be familiar with the computers but with a variety of different types of software programs as well. Schools have common methods to teach students to education themselves and can prepare them for higher education. Webquests are gaining popularity with teachers and school districts. Students can learn to use a webquest to research information in a fun and safe way. Secondly, they can learn how to make power points and present it. Students can be required to use technology a research information anything. Teachers can provide students with an outline of what is to be researched and students can be responsible for their own learning. Some examples of research projects are: animal research projects, important people, state reports, career projects etc. When students are required to use

How Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom

There are many ways teachers can integrate technology use in the classroom. Here are 3 ways: One is to make power point of a lesson, showing small clips from websites during a lesson, and finding websites that use games to teach and make learning fun. Teachers who love to engage their students use Powerpoint in their lessons. You can walk into any classroom where a teacher is presenting a lesson with presentation software and you can be sure that teacher will have 100% student engagement and a high percent of students who master the objective the teacher just taught. There are many websites that offer great educational short videos that teachers can use to support their lessons. Our students these days are becoming more and more visual learners and I think that teachers need to integrate the use of small videos in their lessons. Here are some websites that provide excellent short educational videos; Starfall.com, Brainpop.com , and UnitedStreaming.com. One of the easiest ways to integr

Veteran Teachers Lack Training

Our schools also have a lot of veteran teachers who do not possess the necessary training to teach with technology. We are experiencing lack of technology use in our schools because veteran teachers do not have the necessary training in technology. Many teachers who earned a life credential never have to take a class in their entire teaching career because they do not have to renew their credential. LIFE credentials are valid for the life of the holder and do not require renewal. Life credentials are no longer initially issued. http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/cl494.pdf Many teachers do not feel comfortable using computers for their personal use and you can forget about being able to use a computer to teach a lesson. All Universities who are accredited have some kind of computer class integrated in their teaching program for new teachers. New teachers are highly skilled in technology and use power points to teach students. These power points highly engage the kids therefore n

Lack of Technology in the Classroom

Today in our society, we are in a time where technology is essential in mostly every job. Unfortunately our schools do not have the sufficient funds for computers or make the time in the schools' curriculum to use technology in the classroom. The first reason why we lack the use of technology in today’s classrooms is because of the lack of funds our schools get. Only schools that are considered to be low-income get additional money from the federal government for anything that will enhance the school. These schools are called Title 1 schools and they usually use the money for technology by providing students with a computer lab. The problem with that is that most classes only have the opportunity to use the computer lab once a week for 45 minutes. On the other hand schools with prestige perform well because the students use computers. How do these schools do it? Well they have the support of wealthy parents and donate money for schools. These parents ensure that the schoo
We are loosing Art in our schools. It seems that only magnet schools, private, and some special charter schools are the only schools that see the value in teaching art in their classrooms. Why has so many public schools dropped the subject from their curriculum? I know that there are some teachers that try to make time in school art, I say “great job’’ for them. But even they struggle to find art supplies, and when they try to ask for the school for supplies, chance are the will be turned down. Some school principles even worn teachers not to have any art related lessons. One school I know doesn’t even allow the kindergarten classes to have art. But the teachers still manage to get by making crafts related to other subjects, good for them! I wonder when or who made the decision to take art out of our elementary schools. I know that students have the opportunity to take elective art classes in Junior High and especially in High school. But some Jr. High schools still do not provide cour
